Consequences // Taylor Vice

     A phrase that is commonly used is "every action has a consequence." This is can be seen multiple times throughout the novel. Edmund dies as a result of his betrayal to both his father and his brother. His malicious actions resulted in the tragic, unchangeable consequence of death. A brighter example of consequences would be Edgar reclaiming his power and title after it is found out that he was not the one with the intent to commit treason. However, just because one makes a moral decision, it does not mean that they will receive a good outcome. Cordelia did nothing but stay true to herself and make ethical decisions, but her outcome came in the brutal form of death.                                                                                                                                                                                 






 



     Consequences, whether they are good or bad, occur in our everyday lives. It might seem as if we are trying our best to do what is right, but it feels as if our lives keep taking a turn for the worse. Life is unfair, and no matter what you do or how hard you try, everything will not always work out in our favor. Have you ever felt as if nothing is going the way in which you wish? Do you ever feel as if you are alone in this world with no one to confide it? Relying on your faith and putting your trust in him can you bring you through the rough patches in your experience of life.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    I commented on Lily Caswell and Raygan Boster's post.

    I agree with you; actions have consequences. This is why we should be mindful of, and take action in accordance with, the responsibility we have been given to make good decisions. When one contemplates this truth, one might be tempted to regard oneself as "the master of his own destiny." But at the same time as we acknowledge our responsibility, we should remember the reason for why we can trust in God; because he is in control, even over our decisions. Was King Lear responsible, and to blame for the consequences of, his rashness and desire for flattery? Of course he was. If King Lear was real, would God have tempted him to commit sin? By no means (James 1:13-16). But is "The king's heart in the hand of the LORD" (Proverbs 21:1)? It is even so: "as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will." God is sovereign, and we are responsible. What a paradox!

The Plague in Everyone// Emily Otts

     In part 4 of the Plague , Tarrou tells Rieux about how he has had the plague forever. Except, this is not the same plague as the one ravaging the town. Tarrou speaks of how his father was a lawyer who believed in the death penalty, how he saw so many people support it and be comfortable about it, and how he had to witness the executions of prisoners. He explains how this sort of mindset is a plague itself, one Tarrou had been fighting for a long time. " That's why everybody in the world looks so tired; everyone is more or less sick of plague. But that is also why some of us, those who want to get the plague out of their systems, feel such desperate weariness, a weariness from which nothing remains to set us free except death" (Camus, part 4, chapter 6). The Thirst for Knowledge

     With Book Seven of Milton's Paradise Lost, Raphael is continuing his exposition on Satan's apostasy. The plan is to expose Adam and Eve to the wretched fate of those who cross God's will. The more he shed's light on the subject, however, the more Adam is inclined to ask for more information. He wants to know everything about the subject, as well as God and His creation.      However, while the taste of such knowledge leaves Adam yearning for more, there are boundaries. It is like a toddler eating a cookie... and eventually begging her mother for the rest of the jar. Is it a coincidence that the one thing Adam and Eve are not to touch is the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil? Most readers know how the story ends: these toddlers are never going to be content with a few cookies.
