It’s Ok to Not Understand Everything—Lily Caswell
Wisdom is constantly a thing that we as humans strive to have. We always want to learn more about higher things. Christians always (or should at least) strive to learn more about God and how to be more like Him but in order to do that, we must have wisdom. Sometimes, I think we need to realize (and I’m speaking to myself more than anything) that it’s ok for us not to know everything about God and it’s ok for us not to be able to understand God because our brains, however advanced they might be, cannot fully comprehend God.
In Book 8, Raphael tells Adam
“Solicit not thy thoughts with matters hid. / Leave them to God above. Him serve and fear! / Of other creatures as Him pleases best, / Wherever placed, let Him dispose… Heav’n is for thee too high / To know what passes there.” (Milton Book 8, lines 166-173)
Basically, Raphael is telling Adam that if God has hidden things, leave them alone. It’s impossible for us as humans to fully comprehend how Jesus was fully God while also being fully man at the same time. It’s ok for us not to know how God is omnipresence and omniscient because we are humans, we’re not God and therefore cannot fully comprehend or understand Him.
I commented on Emily Ott’s and Samantha’s posts.
I agree that there are some things we, as human beings with finite minds, will never understand. There are things that God doesn't want us to understand. Maybe that's why God forbid Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Maybe God was telling them that it would be better for them to trust Him without knowledge.
ReplyDeleteYes! I often struggle with this because I am insanely curious. If you are familiar with Harry Potter then you know what I mean when I say I am in Ravenclaw. I have a thirst for learning and it is frustrating when I do not understand something. I know that God does not intend for us to know and comprehend everything but it does not seem to stop it from being frustrating.
