True Colors // Taylor Vice
"Thus while he spake each passion dimmed his face
Thrice changed with pale ire, envy and despair,
Which marred his borrowed visage and betrayed
Him counterfeit if any eye beheld," (Milton, 4.114-117)
In Book 4, Satan is disguised as a cherub so he will not be questioned as to why he is in the Garden of Eden. Upon seeing how beautiful Earth is, he becomes enraged and jealous because it reminds him of how life once was for him. Uriel notices how Satan's face is changing and realizes he is not a cherub so he goes to inform Gabriel of the intruder in the Garden of Eden.
In life, people can often appear different than they actually are. People can disguise their true nature with a facade to obtain what they desire. Satan's plan is to manipulate Eve so that she will fall into his plan by disobeying God. Oftentimes, people's true colors do not show until they are at their worst. You might never truly see how a person really acts until something that they dislike takes place. When dealing with someone like this, you might not always realize what is occurring, which is why we should always choose to follow God so he can lead you down the right path. In Book 5, Raphael explains to Adam that God made human kind the highest being on the Earth and we should always choose to obey him. If we stray from God, we will run into trouble that we will not know how to escape from rather than if we had maintained our relationship with Him.
I commented on Haylee Lynd and Breanna Poole's post.
Wow you hit an amazing point Taylor. I didn't even make that connection in my mind. We definitely have to be on guard against wolves that are in sheep's clothing. That have no desire other than to ultimately do harm to those around them. Just as you mentioned, when we obey God we avoid trouble that we otherwise would stumble into, such as two-faced people among us.
ReplyDeleteI think it is really interesting that not only was Satan able to disguise himself, but he was so good at it, that he fooled the angels that he had been around for so long. Satan is evil, yes, but he is really good at what he does. That is why it is always a positive thing in our time to be in a COMMUNITY of believers that you trust. Because at the end of the day, others will see things we don't, and we will see things that they don't. It is not hard to be fooled by the devil, even the angels of God were fooled. The only one he can't fool is God alone.
