Self Confidence or the Lack Thereof // Emmett Bryant
Have you ever wanted to do something and absolutely felt confident that you could? And then when your excitement is at its peak people begin to fill your head with negative thoughts? Well, Richard could tell you just how it feels. He wants to go into medicine but everyone around him thinks that it is not a good fit for him and he would be better off doing something else. Now, don't get me wrong, it is always good to listen to the advice of wise people around you, but in Richard's case he really wanted to do medicine. I think when you have something that drives you like that you should chase after it. When you have that drive, it can fuel you to become whatever God calls you to be and do whatever God calls you to do. No matter how grand or how small, we all have a calling on our life placed there by God and when He gives us a drive to do/accomplish that said thing, there is no one or no thing in this world that can stop us or deter us from following the path God is calling us down.
I commented on Song's and Raygan's posts.
The reactions from the other characters regarding Richard's chosen vocational direction bothered a good deal as well. I mean, they were wanting him to decide on a career and "find his place in the world" right? And then, when he actually chooses something that would not only have a steady stream of work demands, but would also pay well, they get all unsure. Some consistency would be nice from them; if anyone is to pursue a profession, they will need some support from their peers/family at some point.
ReplyDeleteRichard can be relatable here. I know several people who really wanted to go do something only to have there own parents be the ones to give them the negative thoughts to keep them from doing what they want. Sadly they listened and their lives have never gotten to their full potential and they are always miserable. Fortunately I have one cousin who didn’t listen to these negative thoughts and he is doing better than any of his siblings and parents.
ReplyDeleteI like how you related the book to real emotions that people have in life. This feeling is very relatable for many people. Often times we listen to society too much and this causes negative thoughts and feelings.
ReplyDeleteHey Emmett! You are absolutely right. It's interesting to me that Esther deems Richard as indecisive when he knew what he wanted to do. It was other people doubting him that made him question his choice.
